Wireless
Industry Announces TTY Compatibility with Digital Cellular
Phones Meeting
a deadline from the FCC, many wireless service providers
across the country have updated their digital networks to be
TTY compatible. Now, for the first time, TTY users can use
compatible digital cellular phones and services to make
wireless calls.
Because
TTY compatible digital cellular service may not yet be
available in all areas, we encourage customers to check with
their cellular phone salesperson and local wireless service
providers before purchasing equipment. To make TTY calls
using digital cellular phones, users need:
1. Ultratec's Compact/C (or Ameriphone's Q-90D)
2. A digital cellular phone that includes TTY compatible
capabilities
3. A TTY compatible digital wireless service provider
To answer
common customer questions, Ultratec has developed a Digital
Cellular Phone/TTY Compatibility sheet. To request a copy,
email us.
E-Turbo
& Sprint Relay: Making Relay Calls Easier
E-Turbo,
which stands for "Enhanced Turbo Code," is
Ultratec's new TTY technology that simplifies calling
through Sprint Relay Service. E-Turbo lets users directly
dial the number of the person they are calling and brings
Sprint Relay automatically into the call. It also eliminates
most of the call start-up interaction between the TTY caller
and the Communications Assistant (CA) by automatically
passing on the details of the call to the Sprint Relay
Service.
E-Turbo
is currently available in all new Superprint Pro80 Series
units from Ultratec. E-Turbo works with Sprint National
Relay Service and Sprint state relay services
nationwide.
